Dental Crowns and Bridges

Functional and Attractive

Our Charleston dental crowns and bridges help protect and rehabilitate your smile so that it functions properly. The durability they offer allows you to eat all of your favorite foods and feel confident about the way you look.

Without a properly fitted crown or bridge, teeth can continue to wear down or shift out of alignment. Investing in a durable—and attractive—restoration will help prolong the lifespan of your smile in the years ahead. By placing these strong restorations over missing or compromised teeth, you can extend the lifespan of your smile and maintain your natural diet.

Do I Need a Dental Crown?

When your tooth is significantly fractured, worn, or decayed, patching it over with a filling will only put the tooth at risk for additional breakage. Fortunately, full-coverage crowns (sometimes called “caps”) help distribute biting forces to protect the weak, underlying tooth.

Crowns are tooth-colored restorations that cover the entire tooth above the gumline, reinforcing the tooth structure remaining.

Crowns provide full-coverage protection when teeth have:

  • Large chips or fractures
  • Significant areas of decay
  • Recent endodontic treatment
  • Structural damage preventing veneers

A crown can also be set on top of dental implants for single tooth replacement purposes.

Most of our dental crowns are crafted from tooth-colored ceramics or porcelain. However, non-visible teeth in the back of the mouth are sometimes restored with gold crowns because of their ability to withstand maximum chewing forces.

Fixed Bridges for Missing Teeth

Bridges are traditional treatments for replacing missing teeth. They are still a popular alternative to partial dentures and implants.

Dental bridges look like 3-4 crowns in a row. However, only the ends of the bridge actually fit over teeth or dental implants. The others are suspended between them, filling in the space created by missing teeth.

Bridges are appropriate when there is a healthy tooth or implant on either side of the tooth that’s missing. Especially if an individual implant isn’t appropriate or the supporting teeth require additional reinforcement. Dr. Bayme will work with you one-on-one to discuss the advantages of each option as it relates to your smile. That way you can make an informed decision to co-plan your oral rehabilitation as we replace missing teeth.

A Stronger, Attractive, Healthy Smile

Each of our custom crowns and bridges are made from durable materials that match the natural shade of your smile. That way they blend in with adjacent teeth to prevent others from noticing them.

Since bridges and crowns can be placed on both natural teeth as well as dental implants, it allows for a wide variety of treatment options. Whether you have worn or broken teeth or need to replace several at one time, Dr. Bayme will curate a care plan that fits both your functional needs as well as betters your overall oral health.

Frequently asked questions

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

Dental crown and bridge treatments typically require two visits to complete. During your first appointment, Dr. Bayme will numb the tooth and shape it appropriately, creating room for the full-coverage restoration to fit over the supporting tooth. After taking a series of digital scans, we will fit the tooth with a temporary crown. Approximately two weeks later, you’ll return to have the permanent restoration bonded in place.

How do I Care for My New Restorations?

It’s extremely important that crowns and bridges be cleaned daily. Brushing along the gumlines where plaque is heaviest is essential to prevent recurring decay around the edges of your new restoration. Daily flossing is also required. If you’re prone to clenching or grinding your teeth, Dr. Bayme may recommend wearing a night guard when you sleep.

Is Nitrous Oxide Sedation Available?

To help you relax, we offer inhalation sedation/laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is fast-acting and quickly reversible, so it’s safe to drive yourself home after treatment.

Our spa-like atmosphere is designed with your comfort in mind, providing an experience that leaves you feeling more at ease throughout your care appointment. While you’re here, you can catch your favorite movie on one of our ceiling-mounted televisions or tune everything out with our Bose noise-canceling headphones.
