About Teeth Cleaning

Professional Teeth Whitening Options

A brighter smile is essential to healthy, attractive teeth. But not all of us have naturally white tooth enamel. Some of us have genetically darker teeth or years of stains from things like coffee, tea, or past tobacco use. If you’ve considered whitening your teeth, a professional-grade treatment will offer the best results.

What about over-the-counter whitening products? While commercial bleaching strips and trays sold in stores do remove mild dental stains, they aren’t as powerful or fast-working as a professional system. Professional whitening options provide faster and stronger outcomes that are more cost-effective to maintain.

A Perfect Smile Pick-Me-Up

Teeth whitening is perfect as a stand-alone cosmetic treatment. It can also jump-start more dramatic smile transformations, providing a brighter template to match future dental work against. Since porcelain and ceramic don’t whiten, it’s best to start with a brighter color to begin with. And if you already have healthy teeth, whitening them can instantly make your smile look years younger.

One of the biggest advantages of whitening your teeth is that it can significantly boost your appearance without additional treatment. But if you do decide to update dental work or adjust your front teeth, we can match the new materials to your brighter smile.

If you’re looking for a conservative and affordable smile makeover, look no further than one of our Charleston professional teeth whitening options.

ZOOM! In-Office Whitening

Sit back and relax while we whiten your teeth in just one appointment. This one-hour visit brightens your smile by several shades with ZOOM! Whitening’s proven light-activated process. During your visit, the gel oxidizes deep-set stain particles while you sit back and relax in our comfortable, spa-like office atmosphere.

The typical ZOOM! treatment experience involves polishing your teeth, applying the whitening gel, and waiting about 15 minutes while the light triggers stain oxidation. Then the gel is rinsed away and re-applied another 3-4 times. We can also apply a desensitizing agent to minimize irritation.

Take-Home Whitening Kits

Our take-home whitening trays are custom-fitted to your unique smile. Their molded shape holds the professional whitening gel against each curved surface of your visible teeth, providing even and effective results. Dr. Bayme recommends wearing your trays for an hour a day for 10-14 days, then applying them 3-5 times after every checkup to keep your smile white in the years ahead.

Preparing for Your Teeth Whitening Treatment
Before whitening your teeth, it’s best to pan a checkup and dental cleaning. We will polish away any surface stains, remove plaque and tartar buildup, and make sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough to apply bleaching gel. Your teeth will respond to the whitening agent more quickly, providing a better outcome.

We recommend using a sensitivity toothpaste for 1-2 weeks leading up to your whitening treatment and then for at least one week afterward. The special ingredients in sensitive toothpaste blends help counteract common side effects of whitening, like cold sensitivity. If you prefer, you can use it once a day and alternate it with a toothpaste of your choice.

Frequently asked questions

Which Teeth Whitening Treatment is Best?

Professional teeth whitening treatments use concentrated ingredients that are stronger and more effective than products found in stores. In-house whitening works the quickest, but both take-home and in-house treatments produce the same bright results.

How Long Will My Results Last?

To prolong your results, do your best to avoid any foods or beverages that would stain a white shirt—such as red wine, coffee, or tomato-based sauces—and drink through a straw when possible. We recommend touching up with your home whitening kit after every dental checkup to keep your smile bright.

How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost?

Professional teeth whitening is more cost-effective than over-the-counter options, as you can affordably touch up as needed without purchasing a new kit each time. Take-home whitening trays are the most affordable option of the two.

Do I Qualify for Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening products should only be applied to healthy teeth without any active decay or gum disease. Dr. Bayme will need to evaluate your smile beforehand to ensure you qualify. It is important that whitening agents not be applied in areas with existing dental work (such as crowns or fillings) unless you plan to have them updated shortly after your whitening treatment.
